Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy ProjectThe Mental Health Project is proud to announce that our Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project (PPDLAP) will start on July 1, 2008. Funded by the Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for People with Disabilities, the PPDLAP will provide representation, information, and advice to parents with psychiatric disabilities in abuse and neglect and termination proceedings in Family Court in New York City and Rockland, Westchester, and Nassau Counties. The PPDLAP will be guided by an Advisory Council that will include mental health and Family Court experts and three Peer Advisors. The Peer Advisors > will be parents with psychiatric disabilities who have experience in > Family Court, and they will be paid as consultants. Access to Mental Hygiene Records in New York StateA new brochure is available through the Commission on Quality of Care: “Access to Mental Hygiene Records in New York State: A Guide for Individuals Receiving Services and Other “Qualified Persons.” This pamphlet, prepared in response to the requirements of “Jonathan’s Law,” offers guidance for individuals receiving services, their families and other persons legally authorized to obtain records, in a question and answer format, together with references to applicable provisions of the Mental Hygiene Law. An electronic version of this pamphlet is available on the CQC website. |
