| Law Services News - March/April, 2004 Spring 2004 Training ScheduleWe will be conducting trainings at our Suffolk site: 1757 Veterans Hwy, Suite 50, Islandia and at our Nassau training facility: 1 Helen Keller Way, 4th Floor, Hempstead. The fee is $20 per person per training session and is payable to “Nassau Suffolk Law Services”. Medicaid Overview - A general review of the Medicaid program for all advocates. Will include financial eligibility guidelines for the different Medicaid programs, dealing with application delays, Spenddowns, Special Medicaid programs such as the Buy-In, 1619b, Expanded Medicaid, Child Health/Family Health Plus, emergency Medicaid, Medicare Savings, etc. Wednesday April 14, 2004 Islandia 9:30-12:30 Fee $20 Social Security Overview - This seminar will review the disability standard used by Social Security, preparing for a hearing, financial eligibility for SSI, differences between SSI and SSD, overpayments, and how Law Services can help. Thursday, April 29, 2004 9:30-12:30 Islandia Fee $20 Consumer Debt – A review of some of the most common debt situations experienced by our clients with some suggestions for debt relief, asserting debtor’s rights, and curing defaults. Some of the topics will include student loans, cease dunning letters, frozen bank accounts, bankruptcy, tax intercepts, Fair Debt Collection Practice Act, hospital debts, exempt income. Wednesday May 5, 2004 10:00-12:30 Hempstead Fee $20 (Note site). Adult Home Training - This informational seminar is targeted to advocates and adult home owners and will focus on issues affecting adult home residents. The content will focus on access to Medicaid/Medicare, Social Security/SSI, and public assistance as well as the rights of residents (personal needs allowance, conditions, evictions, etc.) The staff of the Adult Home Project will describe their services and how they can assist residents with various legal matters.
