FULL-TIME PARALEGAL POSITION AVAILABLE
OVERVIEW: For more than 50 years, Nassau Suffolk Law Services (NSLS) has been providing free, high-quality legal counsel in civil matters when basic human needs are at stake including: eviction and foreclosure prevention, income maintenance, disability, elder law, healthcare, consumer fraud and more. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services on Long Island, our services support thousands of poor and low-income families and individuals who cannot afford an attorney. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, we work to ensure that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. NSLS has a staff of nearly one hundred employees situated in three offices across Long Island.
POSITION: Paralegal for assignment to support the Legal Support Center for Advocates (LSCA) and Community Relations Assistant.
OFFICE LOCATION: Islandia, NY
DUTIES INCLUDE: The paralegal position will involve shared duties among two related projects: In the Legal Support Center for Advocates, the paralegal will work with the Director of Community Relations to provide legal information and advice to community advocates. The Center’s Helpline provides phone support to advocates so they may effectively assist their clients in welfare, housing, access to health care, disability issues, and other legal matters. Other assignments will involve assisting the Director of Community Relations with all aspects of planning and implementing all fundraising campaigns and events. These tasks include but are not limited to updating mailing lists, donor lists, campaign lists, etc.
SALARY: $37,758 DOE Union Scale, Excellent Benefits
START DATE: Immediately
REQUIREMENTS: Paralegal training or college degree or appropriate prior experience; Knowledge of substantive law in various areas is a plus. Good communication and writing skills required. Computer skills –Word, Excel, Outlook, Donor Perfect, Constant Contact, Publisher, Power Point; Demonstrated commitment to the goals and clients of the legal services program. Fundraising experience a plus but not required.
