FULL-TIME STAFF ATTORNEY
Nassau/Suffolk Law Services is seeking a fulltime staff attorney for its Nassau County Housing Unit in Hempstead. The Housing Unit provides legal assistance to low-income residents of Nassau County, with the primary purpose of preserving stable housing. The Unit represents tenants in the summary eviction process, in administrative hearings challenging terminations and denials of their right to federally subsidized housing, and the bringing of affirmative litigation invoking a variety of State and federal Civil Rights laws to enforce housing rights. In addition, staff attorneys may be asked to engage in community outreach events. Staff attorneys are required to maintain client and case data, time records and other required information in our computerized case management system.
Nassau/Suffolk Law Services is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to low-income households. Applicants are expected to bring a commitment to ensuring and protecting the basic rights of a low-income population.
SALARY: $56958 D.O.E.
START DATE: Immediate
Requirements: Admission to the New York State Bar, or applicants who have passed the Bar Examination, awaiting admission, is preferable. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred. Strong analytic and writing skills are essential.
