FULL-TIME STAFF ATTORNEY: FORECLOSURE PREVENTION
Nassau/Suffolk Law Services is seeking a full-time staff attorney for our Foreclosure Prevention Project. The Foreclosure Prevention Project provides direct services to low and moderate-income homeowners facing the threat of foreclosure. The Project is funded through the New York State Attorney General’s Homeowner Protection Program (“HOPP”). The direct services provided include representation at statutorily mandated, court supervised settlement conferences, drafting of pleadings, motion practice and appellate practice. The position is in a high-volume litigation unit, whose primary goal is the preservation of housing for our client population. Several Federal and State consumer protection and civil rights laws and regulations are tools used to raise both affirmative defenses and affirmative actions, in State and Federal Courts.
The Foreclosure Prevention Project is part of a statewide coalition of non-profit legal service and housing counseling agencies. Community outreach, access to trainings and resources from the National Consumer Law Center, and our agency membership in the National Association of Consumer Advocates are additional opportunities for the staff attorney in this position. The staff attorney will be responsible for maintaining client and case data, time records and specified statistical information as required. The staff attorney will be based in our Hempstead office.

SALARY: $56,958 D.O.E.
Requirements: Admission to the New York State Bar. Those who have passed the Bar Examination and are pending admission will also be considered.
