Volunteer Lawyers Project

& Pro Bono Project

The Suffolk Pro Bono Project provides pro bono attorney referrals for full representation to financially eligible clients in matters that usually involve bankruptcy (Chapter 7) or divorce, although other cases are considered.

Due to the great demand for divorce representation, defendants and victims of domestic violence are given priority and will usually receive an attorney referral within a couple of weeks. Plaintiffs in divorce cases are considered according to availability of pro bono attorneys.

Child support litigants, both petitioners and respondents

can call 631 822-3279 to receive pro se (self help) assistance

by phone or to make an appointment for an in-person consultation. Attorney representation is not provided.

17A Guardianships:  Pro bono attorneys are available to assist clients in completing petitions and gathering documents for the guardianship of developmentally disabled young adult children transitioning to adulthood (18 years old). Direct representation is provided on a limited basis.

The SSI/SSD Application Project provides free legal assistance to individuals in both Nassau and Suffolk applying for Social Security Disability benefits (SSI or SSD). The assistance provided by the pro bono attorney is limited to completing the initial application and providing help with obtaining the necessary medical records and other medical evidence to support the application.

We're committed to helping people in need vindicate their rights under the law.
