Empire Justice Center
Empire Justice Center works in support of the legal rights of New Yorkers who are poor, disabled or disenfranchised through direct civil legal representation, advocacy for system change and training and support for other advocates and organizations. In our Long Island office, we engage in impact litigation, policy advocacy on behalf of the rights of low-income New Yorkers, work on issues concerning immigrants’ rights, public benefits, the rights of people with disabilities, mortgage foreclosure, and access to government programs for people with limited English proficiency. We provide information and representation to people, particularly in the area of public benefits, but also with regard to various other issues affecting low-income Long Islanders. We can provide referrals to people with mortgage foreclosure and housing issues, and anticipate hiring staff to do immigration work in the near future. We also do advocacy around language access and other issues, and offer community trainings in a number of areas, particularly concerning immigrants’ rights.
